DREAM
Our orientation module began with the sketching of actual dreams rather than the aspirational dreams of one. It started as an exercise to dwell into the thoughts and emotions we hold.
My Dream :
I initially sketched my memory of the times when me and my cousins used to spend a beautiful time together at my Nani's place. They hold the strong emotions of nostalgia and somewhere the feeling of fear as we would never get to cherish these moments like before again. These dreams made me feel trapped in my past. I sketched the most frequently occuring moments and locations.

The first sketch is me and my cousins gossiping and playing together a board game together.
The second sketch is a kind of collage i tried to make of the places the moments and the places like farms, the swing tied on a tree in front of the entrance of the house and the road, etc.
The third sketch is of the outside views of the house of us making warm memories together.

A Space of Collective Feeling :
In the module, we worked in groups and shared our dream drawings. As we spoked and compared our ideas, we noticed something interesting; all of us had dreams that gave the feeling of being trapped. Some dreams felt strange while others made us fell uncomfortable From this we decided to make a collective artwork around the idea of maze. A maze for us became a perfect symbol of confusion, absurdity and entrapment. It also gave us a way to bring together everyone's thoughts and creative ideas into one shared drawing.
So we chose staircase as our main design element. Stairs felt powerful because they usually suggest movement and progress, but when twisted or broken they can create a feeling of being lost. We experimented with many possibilities of making staircases at unusual scales, disconnecting their landings so they led nowhere, and creating endless loops that circled back around themselves.
The final artwork shows the reflection of our shared emotions and experience. It gave the sense of confusion and made the space look absurd almost like a dream where logic doesn't work.

We made a 3D Installation of the 2D dream sketches which was a challenging part for all of us. With the help of our TA's we designed staircases that were detailed and creative. We gave them depth and dimensions so that they looked real and created spaces that pulled the viewers in and made them think.
